The University of Vaasa's know-how and the strong local knowledge of South Ostrobothnia region are combined in the services the University of Vaasa's Seinäjoki unit offers.

Our unit offers research and development services as well as upgrading programmes and supplementary education, which are designed the needs of province's commercial and industrial life in mind. Our services also cover university education that leads to a degree. This is done in a form of separate Master's programmes.

Promoter of Entrepreneurship

The South Ostrobothnians are enterprising people. That is why the Seinäjoki unit has concentrated especially on education and development connected to entrepreneurship, business economics and regional economy. Seinäjoki unit's other strong knowledge areas are the projects connected to countryside and rural policy.

The EPANET -network operates also at the Seinäjoki unit. Four research professors and one senior researcher work within the network at the University of Vaasa. The University of Vaasa's research professors work in projects concentrating on consumer behaviour research and innovation, development of entrepreneurship in South Ostrobothnia, promoting concept leadership, and research and innovation of logistics systems. The senior researcher works on innovation project handling aluminium technology.

The projects have been planned in order to supplement the University of Vaasa's know-how and support the conveying of research and innovative applications into the everyday life South Ostrobothnians. The task of the EPANET -network is to build a network of applied top research in which the University of Vaasa acts as one of the trend-setters.

Expert on Information Technology

Our unit's central know-how area is the use of information technology in research and education. An example of this is the joint development projects of the countryside's actors and businesses. Our other strengths are the promotion of e-business activities and knowledge connected to multimedia. We are founding, for example, an e-Learning Centre, which is planned to function as a common virtual and network-learning centre for the area's universities and institutions of higher learning.

The University of Vaasa's Seinäjoki unit is located in technology and innovation centre Frami, which is the area's most significant business, research and education centre. Frami is situated in Triano Seinäjoki Science Park, in Seinäjoki technology and innovation village, in which also the regional units of the University of Helsinki, the University of Tampere, the Tampere University of Technology and Sibelius Academy are found. Frami has formed into a workplace for over 800 researchers, entrepreneurs and students of higher learning and it promotes considerably the cooperation of the education establishments and businesses in the area.
